Final discussions on RES Directive underway

01.12.2008

Official discussions on the Renewable Energy Directive have now comes to a close. For the last few weeks, the European Council, Parliament and Commission have been involved in ‘trilogues’ – three-way negotiations on the minutiae of the text. The European Council met with the Parliament’s negotiator every Tuesday in November, and the final negotiation took place on the 26th of the month.

Once the directive is adopted – probably in the first or second week of December - it will need to be voted though by the Parliament and Council, and should enter into force in Spring 2009.

EWEA will send out a special one-off edition of Wind Watch celebrating the adoption of the directive in order to give its members the most detailed information on the new legislation and on what it means in practise.
