TPWind is operational

05.11.2007

The European Technology Platform for Wind Energy (TPWind) is operational and group member lists are now available online.

TPWind is a forum for the crystallisation of policy and technology research, and of development pathways for the wind energy sector. It also provides a new opportunity for informal collaboration among Member States, including those less advanced in wind energy terms. TPWind facilitates the development of effective and complementary national and EU policy in order to build markets. It helps develop collaborative strategies for technology development, with the ultimate aim of reducing costs to the equivalent of the cheapest alternative electricity generation technologies.

Earlier this year, TPWind launched a call for expressions of interest through a mailing-list of 22,000 contacts. The call was also published on the Technology Platform website. The Secretariat received a total of 280 applications by its deadline of 16 September.

The selection process involved the Secretariat, the Executive Committee, the Steering Committee, and the European Commission. The outcome of the process is a task force of 153 top-level decision-makers, who represent the whole sector. TPWind members will meet twice a year in Brussels for two-day events called General Assemblies, the first of which will take place on 13-14 November 2007 in Brussels. The objective is to build an initial version of the Strategic Research Agenda and Market Deployment Strategy document for the sector. This event is by invitation only.
