Mikhail Gorbachev speaks in favor of renewable energy
29.01.2007
In London on 8 June to talk to MPs about climate change, Mikhail Gorbachev warned Britain and other countries to “look before you leap” before building more nuclear power stations. For the former Soviet leader , “Western governments and businessmen should pool their efforts in the search for non-traditional sources of energy and make more effort to use energy efficiently”.
Gorbachev also expressed his fear about the forthcoming discussions that the G8 group will hold on energy issues. The first talks seem to give a very small role to renewables: "The approach by the G8 of facilitating nuclear power lacks vision, and relegates renewable energy and energy efficiency to secondary status", added Gorbachev.
