PRESS CONFERENCE: ‘How to integrate large amounts of wind energy into the European power infrastructure?’

07.11.2006

On 7 November 2006, the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) invites you to a press conference which will address one of the key challenges for our future energy mix: ‘How to integrate large amounts of wind energy into the European power infrastructure?’.

Energy Commissioner Andris PIEBALGS, MEP Claude TURMES, President of European Transmission System Operators Daniel DOBBENI and EWEA CEO Christian KJAER will explain that large scale integration of wind energy is not only achievable, but is also essential to steer Europe towards an indigenous, clean, secure and affordable energy future, while reaping the economic opportunities of technology exports. Speakers will summarise for the press the present regulatory, financial and technical challenges and solutions to integrate more wind power into the European electricity grid.

At the moment, wind energy covers approximatively 3% of European electricity demand, but is capable of delivering 12% by 2020 and more than 20% by 2030. For the wind industry, regulatory, financial and technical issues linked to the integration of substantial amounts of wind energy must be addressed now.

You are welcome to join the press conference which will take place in the Renewable Energy House, 63 rue d’Arlon, on Tuesday 7 November from 11.00 to 12.00 (lunch foreseen).

Please confirm your participation at: [email protected] by Friday 3 November.

This press conference takes place in the framework of a two-day EWEA policy conference on large scale integration of wind energy. For more information about the conference and the programme, please visit:
