How a wind turbine works
28.09.2010
Did you know that there are three main factors which determine how much electricity a turbine can produce? Of course wind speed is one of them – turbines generate energy at wind speeds of 4-30 metres per second. Then there is the blade radius and the altitude of the land where the turbine is sited.
EWEA has developed a tool – how a wind turbine works – which allows you to adjust the wind speed, the blade radius, altitude and choose whether it is an offshore or onshore turbine. You can then discover how much electricity the turbine produces, how many homes that electricity can power, and how much CO2 is saved.
