ERGEG launches regional initiative to facilitate Single European Energy Market

The European Regulator’s Group for Electricity and Gas (ERGEG) launched a Europe-wide initiative in electricity on 27 February to identify and remove barriers to competition in seven EU regions. The Regional Initiative aims to forge a co-operative relationship between regulators, transmission system operators, companies and other interested parties, to tackle different concerns and level of progress. The co-ordination committee will also consider how best to involve Member State Governments and the European Commission. A monitoring process will check that the overall goal is still harmony towards a single energy market.
