2030 targets: will EU leaders listen to businesses' call?

20.03.2014

As EU Heads of State meet to discuss Europe’s 2030 climate and energy policy, will they be as far-sighted as their predecessors, who five years ago agreed to an ambitious renewable energy target for 2020?

Will they heed the 158 businesses and organisations which are supporting an ambitious 2030 framework including a binding renewables target?

Or will they give in to pressure from backward looking lobbies and Member States, and ignore the facts, which show a 30% or higher renewables target will have major economic benefits?

Benefits such as 568,000 more jobs, a massive €260 billion in additional avoided fossil fuel import costs, and three times lower gas imports, than with the 27% target proposed by the European Commission.

Read more on the 2030 discussions and why an ambitious and nationally binding renewables target is so crucial.
