Abstract

Haliade150 - 6mw type certificate validation

Introduction

Increasing the size of the wind turbines is essential for offshore projects as scaling factors achieve economic feasibility despite the cost of substructures. Nevertheless it forces the limits of current designs and the development of a new generation of larger and more powerful wind turbines is taking place.

Approach

Alstom has developed, manufactured, installed and now certified one of the larger wind turbines ever seen. In September 2014, it has successfully accomplished B-Type Certificate of the Haliade150-6MW, Provisional Type Certificate with a complete and satisfactory type testing up to mid-winds. Only high-winds data is missing since there were not enough high-wind measurements at the selected site (Le Carnet, Nantes, France) to fulfill requirements for a definitive certificate. However, the observed trend of the existing data foresees a good behavior at the remaining wind speed bins and, apart from that, the campaign was satisfactory carried out.

Main body of abstract

This abstract is intended to present comparisons between simulations and measurements from the exhaustive measurement campaign applied on Haliade150 Prototype, which embraces modal parameters, loads not only in normal operation but also in idling on many sensors and the treatment of the data includes diverse ways of validation (statistics, damage equivalent loads, time series, Operational Modal Analysis, frequency spectrum). The main reason for such a deep study is that this wind turbine design enters in a cutting-edge range with low or none experience in many fields, and therefore it was deeply tested accordingly.

Furthermore a comparison of mechanical loads and power is presented for some very specific topics, like control strategy for tower to blade passing avoiding frequency, operation close to blade natural frequencies, etc..

Finally this presentation will include power curve comparison showing that 100% of annual energy yield is accomplished within the uncertainties level of power measurement techniques according to IEC61400-12 confirming a robust power curve offer for the Haliade150.


Conclusion

In summary, the type certificate obtained for the Haliade150 and here presented reinforces the technology that Alstom has put in place for the market of new generation of offshore wind turbines.
