Dr. Menke studied physics in Bonn, Berkely and Kiel.
He is with Siemens power transmission since 1996 and was engaged
in the development of sensors for tranmission grids and FACTS systems.
In 2006 he became CTO and is now in charge of the development of
new grid access solutions.
Novel dc grid access solution for large scale offshore wind farms
OWF grid connection via DC provides a number of benefits like the ability to use high capacity cables and the ability to connect even distant locations. But today's DC converter platforms suffer from their large size and complexity which ultimately leads to high grid connection costs.
On EWEA Offshore 2015 Siemens presents a new solution combining the benefits of DC with the robustness and compactness of proven AC technology. This leads for example to lower T&I risks, shorter lead times and overall to significant reductions in both CapEx and OpEx.
Since the new technology is still kept confidential, futher details can only be provided at the conference.
