14:30 - 16:00 HV grid connection: Recent trends for cost and availability enhancement

Grids

Room: A10

Session description

One of the major challenges when engineering an offshore grid connection is to aim for low investment costs (Capex) whilst maximizing the overall grid connection availability over the wind farm life time. This session will focus on recent trends for offshore grid topology and elaborate on:

  • Novel design in which the offshore HV substation function is transferred to a selection wind turbines,
  • Increased grid connection availability by applying distributed substations
  • Latest methods to optimize wind farm collections systems

Learning Objectives

Delegates will be able to:

  • Reduce the cost of the grid connection infrastructure with lean concepts
  • Leverage the availability of offshore grid connections by applying the latest redundancy methods.
  • Enhance overall grid connection performance with minimal losses by ensuring optimal key choices from the beginning of the project.

This session will be chaired by:
Etienne Lemaire, Engineering Manager, CG, Belgium
