Frankfurt is located at the centre of Germany and the heart of Europe. The city is very international and tolerant, and it is often described as the smallest metropolis with a unique sense of character and liveliness. It has excellent air links, being reached in less than 2 hours from most major European cities and being served by a large number of direct international flights. Every part of the city is within walking distance although there is also an excellent network of trams, trains and taxis.

Rich in culture and history

Frankfurt offers a rich variety of historical and cultural experiences. The city has an impressive historical architecture, such as the legacy of the Roman era or the Paulskirche, the cradle of democracy in Germany. Goethe-Haus, the birthplace of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, is the house where the most famous german poet grew up. Nearby the Messe Frankfurt lays the Bockenheim district, a laid back area forming a hive of cafes, bars, quirky shops and restaurants. Its main street, the quaint cobblestone Leipziger Strasse, captures the lively atmosphere of this quarter. The Gothic Bockenheimer Warte is one of four watchtowers in Frankfurt, erected in the 15th century to guard the city. Nearby is the Bockenheimer Depot, a renowned centre for the performing arts.

The attractive surrounding countryside has much to offer in culinary terms: from the famous Frankfurter sausage to the apple wine known locally as “äppelwoi”. Frankfurt is one of the few German cities that have their own vineyard within the city limits. The Lohrberg district in Seckbach is part of the famous Rheingau wine region and is also a popular destination with stunning views of the skyline.
