EU companies drive global industry, says Iberdrola CEO

European wind energy companies are at the head of the industry worldwide, but they need to be “more effective and competitive” to retain this leadership, Iberdrola Renewables CEO Xabier Viteri told Wind Directions recently.
Continued growth in wind power in Europe can be ensured by a single electric market in the EU, improved grid interconnections and integration, good national and European regulatory schemes, and sufficient investment in R&D, he said.
Discussing action against climate change, Viteri said that an international agreement is important but individual efforts, with the EU leading the way, are most significant.
