Europe’s premier wind energy event to return to the heart of Europe in 2011

26.05.2009

The European Wind Energy Conference and Exhibition (EWEC) 2011 will be held in Brussels from 4 to 7 April, the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) announced today.

“EWEC 2008 showed how attractive a location the Belgian capital is”, explained Bruce Douglas, EWEA’s Chief Operating Officer. “EWEC attracts many key decision-makers, and their participation will be maximised by the choice of Brussels, home to the EU institutions. The city also has an excellent media presence, and is well connected and easily accessible from all over the world.”
EWEC 2009 in Marseille showed that the annual conference is going from strength to strength, with 7,500 participants, 500 presentations and 390 exhibiting companies.
Andris Piebalgs, EU Energy Commissioner and key-note speaker at the 2008 and 2009 events, said, “Events like EWEC allow the wind industry, policy makers and journalists to be part of a valuable and positive experience that is of benefit to all."
Not only is the size of EWEC increasing, but so is the size of EWEA’s membership – EWEA signed up its 600th member last week. Axys Technologies Inc. from Canada is a remote environmental monitoring company, which has built the first offshore wind buoy using a solid state lidar.

“We decided to become an EWEA member because Europe is the global leader in offshore wind energy technology, and the European market is hugely important to us”, said Harry Weiler, President of Axys Technologies. “Not only do we want to make our voice heard in the EU, we really appreciate the business and networking opportunities EWEA offers its members through events such as EWEC.”

"EWEA is capitalising on Europe's longstanding leadership in wind power technology to attract member organisations from around the world”, agreed Douglas. “EWEA has become a recognised provider of top quality information, intelligence, events and new business opportunities for the entire international wind sector."
EWEC 2010 will take place in Warsaw from 20-23 April 2010.
EWEC 2011 will take place in Brussels from 4-7 April 2011.
