Third TradeWind Seminar to focus on transmission and power market

12.12.2007

The next TradeWind seminar, focusing on the Nordel zone, will take place in Trondheim in Norway during the Wind Power R&D Seminar on 24 January 2008. It is the third of a series of three seminars that are taking place in the different synchronous zones of Europe: Great Britain & Ireland, UCTE, and Nordel. The TradeWind project works towards the maximum and reliable integration of wind power into the Trans-European power markets and is coordinated by EWEA.

After the seminar covering the GB/Ireland zones, the TradeWind consortium intends now to address the specific transmission and power market aspects of the Nordel area related to wind power integration. The purpose of this seminar is to provide a forum for interaction between the TradeWind project partners and transmission system operators, regulators, developers, energy traders, service providers and other actors in wind power integration in Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark-East.

The TradeWind consortium will explain its approach and the first results obtained. It will organise a dialogue with the participants on the following topics, which will contribute to its scenarios for 2030:
- Market rules and organisation: gate closure times, allocation of interconnection capacity at significant interconnectors, rules for balance responsibility etc. that result in the most cost-effective way of integrating wind power for different wind power scenarios
- Transmission infrastructure and operation: recommendations on critical transmission corridors, possible reinforcements at significant interconnectors and synergy with offshore grid developments, grid optimisation procedures in critical transmission corridors
- Wind power generation: recommendations with respect to wind power plant location, aggregation, short-term prediction and other operational aspects.

The programme of this seminar is now available on the TradeWind website. The website also gives more details about the project, the available results and previous seminars.

The TradeWind seminar is free to attend, but places are limited. For more information and to receive an invitation to the event, please contact Glória Rodrigues - [email protected] - before 15 January 2008.
