Floating lidar has been an area of product development since lidar was originally introduced to the wind industry as a commercial product.
Flidar's achievements are certainly noteworthy and encouraging but they are far from being the first in the water with a prototype.
SeaZephIR prototypes have been in the water since as far back as 2008, and Wind Sentinel also pre-dates the Flidar. We can expect more products to enter this market; Fugro already has a product available.
All of this is to the benefit of the offshore wind industry and these comments are meant to further inform the readers of this article.
