While audience participation makes for good entertainment, the judging should be limited to the only individuals that really matter: those who actually purchase wind turbines.

While wind turbine technological developments are of interest to engineers and scientists, in the end what really matters is the commercial or economic value of the technology to the users. If the technology is not sexy or high-tech, but it produces a lower COE for the user, than that is beneficial.

Cheaper and bigger blades, more reliable gearboxes and bearings, more efficient generators and power systems, active blade controls, condition based maintenance, HUMS, etc. are more beneficial approaches than Direct Drive PM generators, superconducting generators, or using expensive lightweight materials.
