Mr. Schmittner has been working in the wind industry for 25 years. He is currently the general manager of a start-up wind turbine producer in Germany. He studied Electrical Engineer & Meteorology at the University of Vienna. After his studies he designed vertical axis wind turbines. Later he developed wind site and photovoltaic power plant locations in 10 countries which were constructed under his coordination. Parallel he was active as a consultant for several governments in Eastern Europe & Middle East. Since 2014 he is responsible for Amperax Energie GmbH, a start-up company for 3.2 MW wind turbines with prototypes already in operation since one for certification. Several innovations will become very practical for the installation (30 degree single blade assembling), operation (high efficient direct drive technology) and dispatching (integrated modular MWh energy storage with 20 years lifetime) as provider of multi-hybrid energy solutions. He received awards from the City Hall of Vienna and other institutions.

Abstract

Future Wind Solar Storage hybrid Energy Solutions

Introduction

Amperax Energie GmbH it is a German start-up for the development and production of modern 3.2 MW direct drive wind energy turbines. In addition there are some upgrades in preparation, especially the optimization of the installation procedure with a unique single blade assembling equipment. For the efficient long-time wind turbine operation a Redox-flow Multi-Megawatt storage system was development and will be installed spring 2016 for certification and testing, in cooperation with the grid operator respectively dispatching center.

Approach

The additional high speed MWh storage has to increase the economy of the wind turbine dramatically and will allow the integration of wind energy into the electrical grid at critical locations. This future energy solution developed first of all for companies and municipalities will be presented in the speech with interesting technical and economic facts from the practice with former demonstrational applications. A continuous longtime energy production from renewable ressources under changing meteorological conditions in different climatic zones with the implementation of Wind, Photovoltaic and optional Hydro Power Plants, will be confirmed from in-situ operational prototypes and statistical results.

Main body of abstract

Future energy solutions require a intelligent generation from sustainable ressources and the involvement of latest technologies. The combination of a high efficient wind turbine with a nominal power of 3.2 MW and max. 12 rpm plus a high efficient direct drive power train, completed with a latest generation converter in combination with the most efficient Photovoltaic Power Plant plus the integration of a modern Redox-flow large scale Multi-MWh storage system, it is offering a constant power supply for the energy consumer(s).
