Ten CEOs from leading European companies with wind energy assets – from Iberdrola to GE and Alstom – will be in Barcelona next week to describe how they are getting back to business despite the difficult political landscape.

They will speak at the sector’s biggest annual event, EWEA 2014, which is being organised by the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) in the Fira Barcelona from 10-13 March.

Wind energy, like many other industries, has been facing a tough time of late. New installations were down 8% in 2014 – a result of the changing political support in Spain and elsewhere, according to EWEA.

The sector is also calling for the EU to set an “ambitious and binding” 2030 renewables target to follow on from the 20% by 2020 target which it says has guided growth until now.

Despite the current tough times, the companies in the session – which also include Acciona Energia, Gamesa and Vestas – believe wind energy has a future and they will discuss business strategies, new markets, and the thorny question of restructuring next week.

The session will be translated into Spanish.
